One of the things moms struggle to be is perhaps one of the most important qualities we should have and use daily. We get so caught up in our to do lists, activities, etc. that we forget to be playful.
Somehow as we grow up we forget how to play and how truly important it is. Our kids love to play, it’s what God designed them to do. Yet, often times they ask us throughout the day to play with them, but how often do we take the time to do it? What “reasons” (which are actually excuses usually) do we come up with to put off being playful another day?
Being Playful Isn’t Hard
Sometimes kids want to play something that we have no clue “how” to play. While we worry about doing it “wrong”, our kids don’t really care how we play, they are just thrilled we’re taking the time to play.
Playing involved making things up as you go alone, which goes against most moms planning nature. Don’t be afraid to be silly or even pretend you don’t know what you’re doing isn’t right. Laughter is born in the silliness and laughter is good for the soul!
Being Playful Makes your Kids Shine
When we take the time to be playful with our kids, we’re showing them that they matter by our actions. Telling our kids that we love them, are proud of them, etc. is wonderful, but as the saying goes…
“Actions speak louder than words.”
The next opportunity you have to spend time with your kids being playful…take a moment and really watch them…these are the moments in which they shine!
All kids need to know that they matter and play time is on of the easiest ways to show them how much they mean to us. Make their day by giving of your time to them…it is a huge sign of your love for them.
These are two tips that I find really make our playtime enjoyable!
- Do something that they want to do vs. your plan/idea
- Unplug (both the computer and your cell phone) during your playtime
Enjoy being playful with your kids, it will brighten your day and make you feel young again! Laugh and be silly…these are a couple of the things moms are supposed to do!
