Marble Cookies

I was first introduced to Marble Cookies when I was a children’s Pastor as a young woman. One of the families in our church invited me over for dinner and served these cookies for dessert… and I was HOOKED!

Yummy Marble Cookies

Now, anytime I have a little bit of left over sour cream in the fridge I’m hunting for chocolate chips to see if I have the key ingredients I need to make these scrumptious treats! The sour cream gives it a smooth and creamy texture that is almost cake-like, and the chocolate?… well… it’s chocolate! Nuff said!

Here’s what you need to make them:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup firm packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Here’s the How To:

  1. Combine in a medium bowl the flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Beat brown sugar, granulated sugar and softened butter or margarine with a mixer until grainy.
  3. Add egg, sour cream and vanilla to the sugar mixture and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
  4. Add flour mixture and blend on low until combined. DO NOT OVER MIX!
  5. Melt the chocolate chips, cool slightly and pour over the batter.
  6. Lightly fold the melted chocolate into the dough. DO NOT completely mix it in. You want streaks and clumps of chocolate in your dough.rsz_batter
  7. Drop by rounded teaspoon or tablespoon 2 inches aport on an ungreased cookie sheet. (I prefer to use parchment paper or silicone liners).
  8. Bake at 300 degrees F for 23-25 minutes. Do NOT brown.
  9. Quickly transfer cookies to a cooler surface.
  10. And THIS is the result!

I guarantee you these will be just a big a hit at your house as they are at mine. I don’t know the yield for this recipe (I must have forgot to write it down on my recipe card) but I know that in MY house it would be ridiculous to make a single batch so this one usually gets tripled or more because they’re JUST. THAT. GOOD!!

Have you ever made Marble Cookies? Do they disappear just as fast at your house too?
