Welcome back to the ABC’s of Homeschooling series. Today I want to talk to you about how to maybe a achieve a small bit of balance in your homeschooling.
For me finding balance in our homeschool adventure is probably the biggest obstacle of all. You see, running this blog, and my design business keep me very busy. So I have to find that fine line that allows me the time to get my work done but also allows me to be there for my children and their lessons. Here are some things I am continually working on to keep more balance in our homeschool journey that you can try too.
How to find a bit of balance in homeschooling:
- Plan: If you have been around for any time at all you know that I am a huge planner. I love to create lists and make plans for the days ahead. It helps to to know what is coming next so I can prepare the day(s) leading up to those events.
- Prepare: Once you have a plan you can prepare for the lessons that are coming up. I like to take a sticky note and write down any items I will need for the week aheads lessons and place that in the planner a week ahead. That allows me plenty of time to prepare what needs to be ready to go. It is a great way to make sure that you have the baking soda for the volcano that you are going to make for science class. 🙂
- Schedule: Ok, so not every day is going to go by the book each day. It is a good idea, though, to sit down and make out a schedule of the way you would like your day to look. This will help put life into perspective. What do you realistically have time to achieve? Can you drop something from your day? Should you enroll your kids in a weekly co-op to allow a bit more structure?
- Be flexible: As much as you plan, prepare, and schedule things are going to come up. It is inevitable. When bumps arise in the road remember that tomorrow is a new day. You can move things around in your schedule to fit your life. That is the beauty of homeschooling! Make it fit you, don’t try to fit it.
Remember that God didn’t create any two people alike. Your homeschool day is going to look completely different than everyone elses and that is ok. You may need to do school in the evening instead of the morning. You may need to take off Monday’s and catch up on Saturdays. Guess what… that is okay! That is what makes homeschooling so great!
