Smart phones are one of those things that can either be a blessing or a curse.
I postponed getting a smart phone for a while; I honestly hated the idea of spending the extra money each month for data. Over time though, I found apps that can actually help you save money. With a little work, you can pay for your data plan, or come close to paying for it just by using some money saving apps for your smart phone.
Here are three of my favorite money saving apps!
Checkout 51– This app is fantastic! Each week on Wednesday there are “offers” listed. If you go the store anytime during that week and buy one of the offers on the list you get money. To receive the earnings you have to upload your receipt, typically within 24-48 hours the money is in your account. I like that I don’t have to buy brand specific items to save money, things like eggs, fruit, milk and orange juice tend to not be brand specific. Some of the other items are, but I can usually earn at least a $1 or 2 every trip by buying items I’d buy anyway.
Ibotta– This is very similar to Checkout 51, but has distinct differences as well. You cannot shop “anywhere” and earn cash. You must shop at name brand stores, so Aldi’s doesn’t count. They do however have their offers up longer than Checkout 51, and at some point most of us end up at Wal-Mart or Kroger for milk and eggs. You can also use Ibotta for restaurants, movie theatres, electronics, and home repair items, so the ability to earn spreads farther than just the grocery store.
Favado-If you are a coupon clipper-than Favado is perfect for you! Favado lines up all the sales prices with available coupons and puts them in one place. You create a shopping list and email it to yourself to print. From the list, you can print available coupons, or look up the coupons you have from your Sunday paper to clip. If you are not a coupon clipper, then you can still benefit from this app in terms of price matching, or knowing where your favorite items are on sale.
Retail Me Not– I never go to a store without first checking Retail Me Not. Kids need shoes? Don’t pay until you check the app! Baby shower this weekend? Don’t purchase until you check the app! I seriously save SO much money just by using this app at the checkout. The savings can be anywhere from 10% to $25. Most stores have coupons available but I have saved the most at JC Penney’s, Payless and Kohls.
Moms, I guarantee most of us are on our smart phones a LOT! Why not use it to save yourself some money?
What is your favorite money saving apps? Have you tried any of the apps I shared, and if so how did you like them?
