We all know that being a mom can be overwhelming, but what abut those days when it is just too much?
Hi mom, I see you, I am you! I know just what you are going through.
Days turn into weeks. Â You feel like you haven’t slept since the + sign showed up on the plastic device that is probably still sitting in your medicine cabinet. Â Your back hurts, your feet hurt, and you are weary! Â The tears you are holding back in your burning eyes are about to spill out. Â Your heart is full but on the verge of breaking.
Let’s find a way to help you manage and get back to center.
Being a mom is hard!
Some days you want to quit. Â Am I right? Â You have probably locked yourself in the bathroom or hid in your closet. Â I get it!
It doesn’t have to be that way! Â In the midst of the chaos you can find peace!
When being a mom is overwhelming there are some things you can do to reign in your emotions and get things back on track.
1. Stop everything and pray!
I know that seems so basic and a given but often times we get so caught up in our emotional messes we forget to stop and thank our father for our blessings (even the one that just glued a truck to your new hard wood floor.) Â Why not gather up your children and pray together? Â Lay your hands on them as you pray over them and for them. Â Have them join the conversation. Â Prayer is an awesome attitude adjuster!
2. Walk away.
Take a step back and away from the situation. Â Reflect on what is truly bothering you. Â I bet if you dig deep you will see that it isn’t really the current situation that has you on edge, but something deeper. Â How can you change your situation? Â It is ok to take a short time-out to gather yourself so you can return to the situation at hand and handle it with grace. Â **Please make sure that your children are in a safe place before you walk away. Â Babies should never be left unattended.
3. Write it down.
Writing can be very therapeutic. Â It doesn’t have to be fancy or thought out. Â Grab a piece of paper, a pen, and write down what is in your head and heart. Â Maybe you should share that with your spouse so both of you are on the same page.
4. Phone a friend.
Take a deep breath and call your bestie! Â You don’t have to tell them about your situation even. Â Just having some contact with another grown up may help lift your spirits. Â I mean, how many more times can you discuss what Dora found on her walk today?
5. Count your blessings.
I find it easy to get caught up in the negative. Â To sit back and hash out the coulda, woulda, shoulda. Â It does nothing but take my mood from bad to worse. Â So instead of being so negative and putting time into those thoughts I have started counting my blessings. Â Even walking from room to room thanking God for the things in there that make life easier. Â Like a bed. Â Seriously! Â So many people don’t have a place to sleep at night. Â When I stop to think of that it really puts things in perspective.
It’s okay mama!
We all have bad days. Â You are human. Â Just remember that your circumstances do not define you and you are able to change them.
You are not alone! Â I am but a contact message away!
